Vacancy for R&D Specialist III in PDC Trim

Within the PDC Trim Paints in Sassenheim (NL) - the Product Development Centre responsible for the development and the support of all trim paints across EMEA - we have a fulltime vacancy for an

Organisation

  • You will work in an international team, reporting to a team leader or (occasionally) to a project leader.
  • You will at times give guidance to assistant specialists within defined (sub) projects.
  • The PDC Trim team focuses on the development of new and improvement of existing waterborne and solvent-based lacquers for the European market, as well as complexity reduction and cost saving initiatives.

Job description

  • Set up, conduct and supervise experimental lab work to develop new products and improve existing formulations for EMEA according to market requirements.
  • Carry out your own experiments in the lab, analyze the results and conclude the next steps autonomously.
  • Test new and replace existing raw materials, if relevant by consulting literature.
  • Evaluate and optimize cost / performance properties of recipes.
  • Support Marketing by analyzing and solving complaints and proposing portfolio optimizations.
  • Support Production by solving issues and guiding trial batches of new recipes.
  • Independently discuss project progress, issues and decisions with relevant stakeholders inside and outside the team (marketing, production, supply chain, etc). If needed influence and persuade them to meet common goals.
  • Make (research) reports and lab notes and present results and recommendations in project meetings or meetings in the wider R&D community.
  • Collaborate with the Technology Expertise Centers and with global and regional Marketing departments on running and future projects.
  • Give guidance to (assistant)-specialists, starters and trainees.

Job requirements

  • University degree in Sciences: Master of Science with preferably a few years of experience in a relevant R&D position
  • Or an applied science degree: Bachelor of Science with at least 5 years of experience in a relevant R&D position
  • Or Higher Vocational Education (Dutch: HBO) with at least 8 years of experience in a relevant R&D position
  • Paint knowledge - especially of decorative paints - is a clear advantage.
  • Broad computer skills and the affinity to quickly learn and master internally used software packages.
  • General knowledge of project management and working in project teams, demonstrated experience with independently running (small) projects is a clear advantage.
  • Good communication skills and good knowledge of English and (preferably) Dutch.
  • General understanding of stakeholder management.
  • Motivated team player with a result oriented and problem solving attitude within the team and towards internal stakeholders and a hands-on mentality.
  • Committed to quality and complying with all company standards around HSE.
